Now I´ve been in Ica for a few days. Every night there are som candidates flashing their stuff on the plaza propogating whatever it is they´re propagating. Yesterday I saw Lourdes, the female runner-upper I talked about earlier. Her collegue running for congress wanted to get introduced to me but strangely I felt quite shy and did a Suede (as the call it here - act as if you don´t understand). Being a Suede this comes quite naturally for me. Besides, it doesn´t seem too good of an idea being documented with some politicians the week before elections. You never know how it´ll turn out.
I draw attention to me enough as it is. Partly because of my hight but it seems I would anyways with my pail skin and my curly hair. Here I´m considered skinny and they think I have fine features... they call me Barbie. Yeah, well. I think I will stay for ever. No, but seriously it gets quite tiering always to be treated as a foreigner. And it´s expensive! I´m always expected to pay for my company whenever we do something (which many times includes doing things that don´t at all interest me). Then again I CAN pay the bill, I just try not making plans with them the next day. Anyone who has rasist tendancies should go abroad like this and feel what it feels to always been seen as an outsider. Everything you say, everything you do, whatever you are, you are first and foremost a Gringo... and basically marganalized. And this gets on your nervs. You want to scream and shout: don´t just look at me, SEE me. Look past my skin colour and my wierd accent! And then you have to remember that it feels this way being a priveleged foreigner. One who gets asked to be intervied on tv, one who politicians want to meet, one who is considered beautiful, and one who gets complements for speaking the language.
And now I have to go home cause it´s late and it´s not really safe to be out this time of night.
See ya!

"suede" means "mockaskinn". "swede" means "svensk". glöm aldrig det.
